LGN-201 Health Law

This course provides an overview of the American health care system, examining its historical origins and the interplay of competing interests. It examines managed care organizations [MCOs] including [HMOs, PPOs, PHOs, IPAs, etc.]; and MCO regulatory issues, such as licensing and certificate-of-need requirements and patient rights legislation; legal implications of the transactions engaged in by MCOs; fraud and abuse in the health care system; managed care contracting including contract drafting and analysis; legal issues concerning hospitals; Medicare and Medicaid; interaction health law with medical malpractice.
