Event Planning and Management Certificate [30-36 credit]

Those students wishing to only explore the field of Event Planning may desire to pursue this option.  In addition to hospitality management and event planning, the student will select from courses in business communications, business math, small business management, event planning and management, and food and beverage cost control.   Entry level positions are open to those who wish to organize functions such as weddings, special events, and business meetings.  Graduates also have the option to apply for membership in the Meeting Planners Association.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the planning, space, and equipment elements necessary to support the logistics of the event by studying the resource workbook.
  • Recognize the role food and beverage plays in an event.
  • Review the process of hiring professionals, such as, caterer, entertainers, sound specialists, lighting companies, etc.
  • Communicate details of the event to all the staff and suppliers concerned.
  • Summarize the importance of keeping detailed financial records and generating accurate post-event reports.
  • Analyze the role of ethics in establishing meetings industry best practices.
  • Provide guidelines for accommodating people with disabilities at an event.
