Fine and Performing Arts AA– Dance Option

The Theatre Arts: Dance Option program introduces a student to many dance genres including ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and ballroom dance.  The student can then continue their studies as a dance major at a four-year institution focusing on dance and/or choreography or audition for a dance company and begin a career in dance.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate competence in the major forms of theatrical dance:  ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and period dance.
  • Demonstrate the discipline required to work in a professional setting through having experienced the demands of rehearsal schedules and the run of a show.
  • Adapt choreography in order to work in proscenium, three-quarter arena, and full arena settings.
  • Perform social dances from different historical periods as well as the contemporary musical theatre.
  • Comprehend and appreciate the technical, backstage, and design elements of theatre by having worked in various technical capacities in the Theatre Department.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and technique to compete in the field of dance and to continue training in a professional dance program either at a four year college and graduate school or at a studio.
