CLINICAL SESSION: TBA

40 hours/week for 10 weeks (400 hours)

This 460-hour course provides students with theoretical and practical skills required to decontaminate, sterilize, prepare, assemble and dispense surgical and procedural instruments. Technicians are hired by acute care facilities, ambulatory care and dental facilities responsible for performance of sterile surgical procedures. Upon completion of the 60-hour theory portion of the program students will continue their studies by working in the clinical setting for a required 400-hour clinical (non-paid) internship.

The "hands on" workplace experience (400 hours) at a local medical center and/or surgical center is required to be eligible to sit for the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) examination administered by International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM). A complete physical examination with proof of immunizations and criminal background investigation must be completed prior to the start of the clinical session. Physical examination fee is the responsibility of the student. Information and required physical and CBI forms will be distributed in class.

IAHCSMM certification examination fee is approximately $125.00 and is an additional student cost.

Prospective students are encouraged to visit the IAHCSMM website to learn about the certification process and requirements:  www.IAHCSMM.org
