Professional Studies AS – Business Administration – Accounting Option

The Associate in Science (AS) Degree, Accounting Option is designed for students seeking a career in the accounting field. This AS provides a solid foundation for transfer to a senior institution for higher-level study. The Degree offers an integration of accounting, business and liberal arts courses needed to enhance critical thinking, analytical, decision-making and communication skills required by contemporary accountants.

Program Learning Outcomes

• Apply GAAP to the recording and reporting of business transactions.
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Identify the importance of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and identify the responsibilities and requirements of ethical behavior incumbent upon management and the outside auditors.
• Demonstrate computer competency in business applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
• Use financial information to perform managerial decision making.
• Present ideas in writing in an effective manner for a professional audience.
• Present ideas orally in an effective manner for a professional audience.
